I have viewed many comments about performance options on the 225, but I wanted to ask everyone collectively: What kinda output does it produce? How much torque & horsepower can come from a stock engine versus one with a super-six setup, rochester 2 bbl. carb., and headers. If anyone can lead me to a thread that already explains this I would appreciate it. I only ask because my friend recently bought a 71 fury with a 340 and I wanted to compare it to my duster with a 225 before we road test it. I know he will win, but hopefully he hasnt figured out how to shift gears that well yet!

The Super six used either a Carter BBD or a Holley 2280. No Rochesters here, those are for Generic Motors. The only thing worse than a Holley is a Rochester, and that is BAD.

Stock horsepower rating of a 225 (SAE gross) 145 HP and 215 ft. lbs. of torque.

Super six adds about 10 more horses and 20 ft. lbs. of torque

Actually the Quadrajunks look rather interesting... Gearhead had a whole thread going somewhere a while back and it perked my interest.

Thanks for correcting me on my mistake...however, I'm curious to know why everyone at this site disrespects any other type of car company? Geez....I own a 77' Chevy Nova 4 dr. with a 250 and I gurantee you that it has been nothing but dependable for the last 3 years I have had it. My 71' duster has been a pain in the ass since you cant find parts for it and it has so many little funny quierks; AKA: 5 x 4 bolt pattern; screw-in ball joints, defrost/heat vacuum, etc. If it wasnt for the fact that it has no rust on it and im the second owner I would consider selling it...WHAT!!<slams face on desk> I would never sell it! MOTHER MOPAR IS FRIGGIN SWEET!!

"I'm curious to know why everyone at this site disrespects any other type of car company?"
Everyone?! Your curiosity is incorrect. I think inline a 250" or 292" Nova is cool, same with a 258" Gremlin. A 250" Falcon or early 'Stang would be if it weren't for the integral intake on the head.

"5 x 4 bolt pattern"
That can be changed with by drilling to 5 x 4.5" pattern and/or a disc brake assembly from a '73-'76 Duster

"screw-in ball joints"
Go look at every late model (the fastest class) at your local circle track, it will have the same screw in ball joint used on every '73-'76 Duster.

I was not slamming Chevy, as my best friend has a 73 Nova with a 250 and I have a 66 C-10 with a 283. I also have a 1985 Silverado and a 1975 Ford F-150 with a 390. I was just slamming Rochestor. The Quadrajet is a pretty good carb, but the two and one barrels are not the best. About like a Holley 1945, you never know how bad they are until you switch to something better.

Carter still makes one of the best two barrels I have ever seen.

The Quadrajet was made by both Carter and Rochester!
Mopar used them on mid-'80s 360 motors, I had the Carter version on an '85 I once had.

It seems most "car guys" need someone to slam. Slant guys slam V8s, V8 guys slam slants, E and B-body guys slam A-bodies, Mopar guys slam Fords and Chevys, musclecar guys slam import guys, old "traditionalists" slam 17" wheels (sorry, DW!).

It's all part of the fun (I guess), but if you're more "open-minded", try to stay that way as you get older and more cantankerous...

I enjoy slamming imports...but then we meet at the stoplight and I get blown away when it hits green. I would slam V8s but it would feel so wrong cause I totally admire my friends 340 duster. The only cool thing i can say about slant/straight sixes is that they are good on gas and that is becoming important as of late. Being in college I have to cry whenever I put gas in, but it makes all the difference when I see a huge hummer drive up and a little soccer mom (just her in the beast) step out and put $55 bucks in....like it was no big deal. Sometimes you have to love the things you hate...like me and my slant6.

The Super Six used a Carter BBD, only. Holley sold a 2280 variant as an aftermarket replacement for the BBD, but the 2280 was never factory equipment.

Chrysler equipped plenty of 1971 318s with Rochester 2bbl carburetors, due to supply problems at their normal carburetor suppliers. Some 1970 and 1972 318s might've been so equipped, as well. But you're right, no slant-6s.

Like most legitimate companies making most things, Rochester made some very good designs and some very bad ones.

No, the Quadrajet was made only by Rochester. Carter supplied various 4bbl carburetors in its history (WCFB, AFB, AVS, ThermoQuad) but Carter did not supply Quadrajets. Quadrajet is a registered trademark of Rochester division of General Motors. Chrysler used both Thermoquads (up to the mid '80s) and Quadrajets (from about '85 through '89).

Donno for certain what you had, but it wasn't a Carter Quadrajet.

I wish that were true, it would make life a lot easier for us! They certainly made a very good 2bbl carburetor for Chrysler, but they don't make 'em any more.

And the version of the BBD they built for AMC/Jeep was considerably more troublesome than the Chrysler BBD. Minor changes in parts and spec, major difference in reliability. AMC/Jeep owners loathe BBDs as much as we like 'em.

The Rochester Quadajet is one of the most advanced carburetors made but it is very sensitive to dirt. Mopar used them on the last carbureted V-8's in the 80's if I remember correctly.

Then how come the Super six article on this site mentions the 2280 as a factory carb, next to the BBD.
