im back after taking Reeds advise and the tune up went smooth now that i found the procedure to tune my 85' van. My only question now is i went to set fast idle and i find that neither Haynes nor the Autozone site specifiy if i block off the ESA or not. It only mentions OSAC or vacuum advance cap off . My assuption was to cap off the ESA port and set fast idle is this correct?

Yes. Set the fast idle with the ESA hose plugged.
