Hi

the oil leaked out the front of my rear end (7 1/4) and now the bearing at the front is grinding. It also gets hot.

Has anyone fixed this problem before and if so what is the procedure/advice

In my manual it says it is one of the bearings the can be fixed by the home guy, as access is available from the front once the drive shaft is removed.

thanks

I hate to say this, but it's likely that more than just the front pinion bearing has been damaged. First thing I'd do is pull the rear cover and inspect for gear damage. If the front pinion bearing is all that's bad you still need to replace the bearing race. That job will require removing the pinion nut, the axles so you can pull differential carrier, pulling the carrier, the pinion, pinion seal and then driving out the bearing race. Putting it back together properly is longer and more involved.
