I have a 64 Dart and I am looking to upgrade the archaic voltage regulator. What can be used to replace this with a more reliable and "quieter" piece

You can go to Auto Zone and purchase an electronic voltage regulator as a replacement or by the electronic one for 69 and earlier cars from Mopar Performance.

Other direct "plug-in" replacements for your stock mechanical voltage regulator include:

JC Whitney P/N 73DY7133U

Wells P/N VR706

Ampco P/N 7606

These are all electronic regulators.
