I pulled a ford 7.5 rearend out of a ranger for my Valiant.
Same approx width as a 7 1/4, 10" brakes, 4 1/2" bolt pattern. The simularities seem to end there. I was surprised at the difference.

This one has 4.10 gears and a posi. I'm going to give it a try. Sould hold up behind a 170 and automatic. Just need to move the spring perches

Interesting... How much does it weigh? Overall width is what, 56-57?

Thanks,

Lou

Lou, It's lighter than the 8.8 I put in my Dart which was right at 200lbs. I'd say it's about 180lbs. Width is 56 1/2".

Mac, actually I end up putting an 8.8 in the valiant because I'm going with a 225 that's going to be street-strip car.
I have no doubt that the 7.5 would be an easier swap than the 8.8, you don't have to narrow it, and plenty strong for most slants. Plus there's a wide range of gears and posi units available for it.
