I have been trying for one of these for years. I already have the much
less scarce '61-'63 non-see-through variety (cast in red plastic). Got Bill Weertman to sign the valve cover of that one! When I brought it to him, he remembered having written the "How engines work" book that went with 'em, and also remembered these kits taking forever to put together, and being much more fiddly and difficult than the real engines.

These see-through types, on the very rare occasion I've seen them go by on eBay, have always gone for really stupid money. I think I did really well on this one, though—€45 plus shipping from Germany.

So, someday, when I retire in about 4 decades assuming the world lasts that long, I'll have something to occupy my time!

Yeah! Great find Dan!, I can see that is true that will be difficult to put together, but will be fun or will keep you busy for some time.

Not too bad, Dan......What is that.....45 Euro? That would be about 80-90 dollars US, wouldn't it? I've seen them go for as much as $275 on the bag.

I scored one a couple months ago, but mine was already put together. That gives me an assembled see-thru, and a partially assembled red/gray one. Gotta love those slants!! :D :D

Naw, €45 for the engine + about €48 for air shipping (don't trust the slow shipping ex-Europe) wound up costing me about $131 USD.

Did anybody remember several years ago, a company in the states that hand crafted scaled down engines, fully operational replicas, gas powered and with an ignition system? I dont remeber the scale for sure but they had a 409 you could hold in the palm of your hand!

I just want to see what kind of car you come up with to put it in ...

Did anyone make a Hyperpak add on kit? :D

About the gas model engines, I'd check ads in magazines like Home Shop Machinist, Projects in Metal, et al.

No, These guys served a very expensive cliental, each engine was in the neighbourhood of $40,000 and up. It could have been more, much more if I remeber, maybe $60,000 and up!

Don't know how they are about doing business but this place looks interesting. Their complete kit is around $600.

same idea, however, the engines were half that size and were not generic, they were accurate replicas of specific engines like 409, 350, etc. The only problems they had, I remember, is that the engines were so tiny that ignition wires, sparkplugs, some linkages and springs had to be made slightly bigger than scale in order for it to function properly.

I would love to see one of those mini-engines powering a bicycle or go-kart.

I wonder if Doug Dutra will make some 1/4 scale "Dutra Duals" for it?

Dan,

When I was about 13, ie 1964 or sometime in that time line, I wanted one of those visable engines. I chose the the V8 over the Slant Six. I put it together and won a science project with it just I had the visible Slant Six. Thanks Ron Parker :D
