Any recomendations for a quiet muffler with a nice tone to it? and is 2 1/4" pipe too big for a 225? the stock muffler and 1" pipe are too restrictive and a little to quiet for me. I can hear the engine through the firewall more then through the exaust pipe.

2.25" pipe is perfect.

Find a muffler for a large luxury car with a large V8. It will be quiet and will have plenty of flow for slant 6.

I had a 2 1/4 inch exhaust installed on my Duster right after I supersixed it, and it did help the performance some, Especially crusing down the freeway at 75-80 MPH. I would recommend you do this mod with the muffler off of a 318 A-body. That is waht the factory did when they wanted a better flowing exhaust on the Feather Duster and Dart Lite. It is quiet too. I have a Flowmaster 40 series installed on my Duster, and it sounds like a V-8 at idle, but I tihnk it would be too loud for your tastes (and it is pretty loud).

Ya, flowmasters are out of the question. I ran those when I fooled around with 240Z's. loud as F*%#!!!!! they did make those datsun straight sixes go like the wind though. (actually they love being run open header) anyway. I'm done atracting that much attention to myself.

Short Answer : 2 1/4 pipe with the turbo muffler

call around till you get a sensible price from someone (like $200 installed)

I second the recommendation to use a stock-but-for-larger-engine muffler, such as a 273 or 318 A-body unit, for better flow without undue noise. I don't like so-called "turbo" mufflers on \6s. Too much noise (resonant boom at inconvenient speeds like 55-65 mph).
