i'm planning a trip to palm springs in my car. i removed the factoy A/c and heater. i have a 4 core A/c radiator and super six setup

the last time i went, my car overheated, my question is what is the highest temp i can operate the car without harming any internal engine parts? and what is a good wa to test and see if the car will overheat?

Seriously though.....if the car starts to overheat just take the next pullout and let it cool....and start again. It takes a lot less time to cool a motor down than it takes to replace it.....

You can run it up to 220 without any harm.

everything is there, as it should be. when i drive to work 10 miles on the freeway doing about 80 and it reaches 190. will it stay at this temp while driving out that far?

since the trip, i've had a fourth row in the radiator installed. i have the fan shroud and original factory fan.

it should hold t-stat temperature...if everything is in working order. my 82 PU hold 195* in TX heat driving as fast as it'll go on the freeway....sometimes for hrs at a time.

i've never had a car that had everything working right that would not.

do you have a fan clutch? that would help also.

how did you block off the heater hoses?

i've had my slant peg the temp gauge and no apparent problems have resulted. not to say you SHOULD do it, but the slant is a durable engine and being all cast iron makes it even more durable.

The thing I'd be more worried about with overheating would be overheating the automatic transmission. Overheated engine = transferring heat to the transmission fluid lines and into the transmission. (I've overheated my slant up over 220* with a bad radiator...bubbly transmission fluid)

i installed a mojave heater and the hoses run into an outlet / inlet.

i've haven't take the car out for more than an hour since the last time i went, i'm just worried that it will overheat and cause a huge delay in plans.

i know it's wayyy hotter out there, and the air is dry, maybe i should try driving out to lancaster or something and checking it out?

I'm not sure that a regular fan shroud would make a difference at highway speeds. Typically, shrouds enhance the fan's effectiveness by ensuring that heated air does not flow from the engine side around the blades. Blocking that backflow creates more of a low pressure zone right behind the radiator, pulling more cool air through from the front of the car.

The airflow on the road would be primarily from vehicle speed, not the fan. Some shrouds even have flaps that open when air pressure in front of the fan is high, again at speed.

Airflow management within the engine compartment at speed is a pretty complicated business.
