OOPS, thats a pic of the first prototype. forgot to say that.

the next version of it will be a much cleaner version in a much better housing. I plan to show it off in the "other" section once I get some better pictures.

(side note: I am really surprised those pics on the first page haven't died off yet. I cancelled that horrible ipowerweb service months ago but they are still up)

Today is a magic day. Today I paid the remaining amount of my bill to DG motors in ST. louis park, and took my baby home.

The paint didn't survive the hot tank but thats okay.

now she is .060 over stock bore,

rods are magnafluxed, cleaned, balanced, and shot peened, turns out there was a 14 gram difference in one rod to one other, and one was bent a bit,

block had to be line honed, which I didn't plan on doing but it turns out needed to be done since the engine had been sitting unassembled and the crank would no longer spin freely when set in the mains. (thats $200 extra I didn't plan on..... )

crank has been balanced and polished,

and the block got decked .065. this brings my compression (along with my head work) to a respectable (in my opinion) 10.4 to 1. I had been shooting for 11 to 1 but the machinist talked me out of it due to having cast pistons.

they really seem to have done allot of extra work for me since they knew I was on a budget (multiple assemblies and talking with me for hours on end about what I wanted to achieve). This guy knew more about engines than I will ever know.

now I am doing the assembly myself. two reasons being: I can't afford having someone else to, and I really want the satisfaction of doing it myself.

I need a new torque wrench though........dammit.

thanks for your interest!

problem is I am in the middle of buying a house and moving in, so I really don't have the time to be online much, let alone give the engine the attention it deserves. I want to do it right, so it has to wait until I have more time.

good news is I finally got a good torque wrench and I will have a decent garage to work on it in finally! I move in at the end of june, so I don't expect to get much done with it until after that.

Once its all buttoned up I will let everyone know..........

yay! the engine is now assembled!

I got the rods, pistons, crank, oil pickup, pan all buttoned up and lubed with white lubriplate, and bought some comp cams goo for the cam and smeared that all over it.

I am having trouble trying to get the cank gear and cam gear to line up (double roller chain from hughes). I am thinking I can try to press it on the crank by just tightening up the balancer.

this thing weighs a ton just assembled this far. I am scared to put the head on it for fear of bending the stand over.

Great build up sick6! I'm running 10.5:1 comp on the street and unless you get your distributor recurved, you're going to find that you'll be pinging even on 93 octane. I've run some 110 mixed in with the 93 at the track and most of the pinging went away. I still have to recurve my dist if you can't tell! 8) Keep us updated on your build! :D
