The engine is totally unrelated to the slant.

And it was never installed in LHD cars, making swapping one in somewhat tricky.

Intake and exhaust look real similar to a slant, wouldn't surprise me if the top end is modelled after a one (they used /6's until '69 downunder), but on an upright block. The bore and stroke is completely different, and valve sizes were quite large (1.96 and 1.60), at least compared to a slant. I know they aren't a true hemi, but don't have a clue what the combustion chambers looked like.

I wonder if similar cam, intake and exhaust on a /6 would give similar results.

Can't disagree, though. I'm sure parts wouldn't swap and I wouldn't want to try and swap one into a LHD car.

Conceptually similar (non-crossflow head) but that's it. No interchangeability there.

Well, that sort of depends on what you mean by "modelled after". The basic concept of the D-engine ("Hemi-6") was designed in the US, but then abandoned and given over to Chrysler Australia, where the bulk of the design, engineering and development work was done.

Not really...oversquare vs. undersquare, different combustion chamber, etc.

Can't imagine why not. It's been done with little to no difficulty, AFAIK, there's nothing to get in the way of the LH-side steering box.

I've seen a couple Hemi-6 swaps into LHD cars, and never heard of or seen any tricky or problematic areas...what've you seen/heard?

Intake and exhaust still use the triangle washer setup that allows expansion and contraction. Bolt locations are different, though.

By "modelled after", I mean that they show enough similarities to lead me to believe that one is a continuation (or evolution) of the other. Wouldn't surprise me if valve centerlines and angles are different, maybe even port sizes, but the rest makes me think slant 6.

Just an observation.

so are we saying that one can not 'hemi out' a /6 with a set up like this? or there is really no benefit to it?

Correct. You cannot bolt a Hemi-6 head to the slant-6.

Hmmmm.....

What if someone were to offer to cast new aluminum heads for the slant 6? Maybe they could model them after the Hemi-6 from Oz.

My mistake. I don't know if it will bolt up to any factory K-members with factory mounts, but had not heard any confirmed accounts of it hitting the steering box or anything.

Aluminium hemi heads are available here in Australia. They are pretty expensive, soemthing like AU$2000. A hemi 6 recently passed the 400HP mark as well.
