i was researching old posts about fusible links when i was trying to fix mine earlier today, and someone mentioned that you can get some from fords in tthe partsyards, but didnt mention years or models or where or anything like that, is it near the firewall like my dart? is it labeled as obviously? thanks!

You can also get them at any decent auto-parts store. I really don't understand why you would want to use 30+ year old ones when you can go buy them relatively cheaply brand new.

I had a truck at work that needed a fusible link repaired. I had to buy the whole roll. but the parts guy might have been trying to force an extra sale on me. I work for a city and they know it aint my money that Im spending so they might as well hit me up for whatever they can

i didnt know the vintage of the fords, that was one of my questions, autozone dosnt have them, and the local napa was closed, so just trying to find a cheap source for an extra in case it happens again, i think its fixed, but just in case

Buss makes packeges them in relatively short lengths (18-36 inches, I believe; not sure) and they sell for what I think was around $7 at the store I worked at. Anyplace that carries Buss should at least be able to get ahold of them. I never had to buy any so I don't remember the specifics.

Year one has them and they are about 15.50. You also did not say what it was for or where it but year one's got them.

Figure out the length and gauge you need and select from the following list of Belden/PowerPath numbers (NAPA sells these under the Belden brand; other parts houses may sell them under the PowerPath brand):

784690: 18ga, 5/16" ring terminal on one end, 9½" long
784691: 16ga, 5/16" ring terminal on one end, 9½" long
784692: 14ga, 5/16" ring terminal on one end, 9½" long
784693: 18ga, no terminals, 8" long
784694: 16ga, no terminals, 8" long
785695: 16ga, ¼" ring terminal on one end, 9¼" long
784696: 14ga, 3/8" ring terminal on one end, 9½" long

It is extremely important always to replace a fusible link with the same gauge and length as originally installed. Fusible links are designed as "slow burn" protection against a catastrophic electrical overload. Fuselinks aren't to be used instead of a fuse or circuit breaker; they are meant to be used in addition to a fuse or circuit breaker.
