Im fixing a 77 Aspen 225 SuperSix a/t wagon. Among other things, I noticed a wiper-moter sized unit sticking out from the filewall below the wiper-motor.
It is electrified, with a vac hose running around the brake booster and into the filewall. A thin link chain is hanging down out of the port that faces the carb. This chain is nearly long enough to connect to the carb linkage,
but not quite. When I tried to connect it (you never know), it pulled the
throttle open substantially, so I didn't.
Anyone know what this is and does? Also, I have not found a factory
manual for this car. The smog vacs do not match the decal. Any sources for this or online?
Suggestions/comments greatly appreciated. The dealer techs aren't much help.
Thanks

That happens to be the vacuum bellows for the cruise control. I'd say leave it disconnected until you can round up that manual.

Roger -
Thanks for the info. Sounds like good advice. No wonder that cruise
never worked. The techs said that it had never been installed, despite
the control on the turn stem.

Would you happen to know where I can access manual-type info. online (preferably non-subscribe)? Among other things I would like to find out why the vac. adv. hose plugs into what the decal diagram shows is the nitrogen oxide valve, and whether I can simplify the antiquated smog system by capping as many of those hose connections as possible.
Thanks again
Don
