I could have sworn that just a couple nights ago I saw a post saying a Maverick hub would fit right onto a Valiant spindle, furnishing a 4.5" bolt circle. But a search on Maverick netted me nothing.

Was it here or did I see that some place else?

(I know about the posts regarding Maverick rear ends. That isn't what I'm talking about.)

The search engine isn't as broken as all that. It won't handle phrase searches, but it'll do word searches just fine, and there was never any such a post as RossKinder mentions on this site. RK, you either hallucinated it, or saw it elsewhere.

In either event, it's almost certainly not true.

There was a post that mentioned swapping a Maverick rear end into an A-body to get large bolt pattern at the rear. Perhaps that is the source of confusion.

I also have read the maverick hub story--
I think it was on all-par or the Houston club web site----
Have not tried it or looked into it further---

As a matter of fact there are quite a few such posts over time, which is one reason I excluded them in my first query on this.

Thanks

I don't know about Maverick hubs, but I have been told that some years of AMC hubs will fit and give the 4.5 bolt circle.

Just curious. Why would one want to do this?

To avoid having to swap to disc brakes to have the 4.5 bolt circle all the way around. On a daily driver one barrel slant six ten inch drums all around is plenty to stop the car. If someone upgrades to a later rear axle with the large bolt pattern it is much simpler just to swap the front drums to get the large bolt pattern up front.

So we're talking spindle out or just backing plate and drum

My understanding of whatever I read where ever I read it was that the Maverick hubs/drums had a 4.5 inch bolt pattern. That should mix well and easily with a Maverick rear end (if it were real-world).

Thanks

My recollection of the AMC hub swap was that it is simply replacing the hub and maybe the shoes (different width?). No backing plate replacement. I have never worked on an AMC car so I can't say for sure.
