The other day I noticed the front brakes on my '87 D100 were grinding a bit when I'd come to a stop. I decided to replace the front pads ,and the gridning stopped, but now it wants to pull to the left when I start to brake. Any ideas? I was thinking maybe the right front caliper might be bad?

Did you resurface the disc?

If you were grinding, you had possible metal on metal, and the disc could be pretty scored up which will cause it to pull even with new pads

Well the pads were thin, but it was not down to the rivets. The rotors were not grooved at all, like I thought they'd be.

Ok, might be some air or a binding pin (that's if it's a sliding caliper)

The air can be bleed, and you can clean a lube up the pins.

Or it's a stuck piston, which means a new caliper.

I'd get calipers in pairs if it's been a while..............

emsvitil is right, its probably a sticking caliper pin or something along those lines. since its pulling left, look for a problem in the passenger side of the braking system.

Well I noticed when I was using to tool to compress the piston in the caliper, it was pretty difficult. Could that be a symptom of a bad caliper? Either way,I have a pair of new ones in the garage, they were on my other truck about a month and were never used before they were taken back off.

Check and be sure that the caliper is free to slide back and forth in it's bracket. This was touched on already but allot of times "sticking caliper" means stuck in the bracket, not the piston in the caliper. Whatever type of caliper you have the pins and/or bracket to caliper contact areas need to be clean and lubed with a silicone or synthetic caliper grease. When they jam in the bracket the outboard pad stays tight against the rotor and can cause pulling or just burn up the outer pad and rotor surface. It could also be some grease or other contamination on the rotors or pads. You may want to get them surfaced to be sure they are really straight and to seat in the new pads properly.
