I've just been assured by an expert that the Holley 5210 is TOTALLY different from a Weber DGEV - no parts in common.

Since I like to confirm things with more than one opinion I'm like to hear from the experts here on that subject.

Check with Luthastro, who I'm pretty sure is very near your location.

Whatever makes you happy But you can't get much from assumed names. Any idea what his real name is? I can call just about anywhere around as a local call. Are you suggesting he knows more about carburetors than Reed?

I did note in my reading that, oddly enough, you seemed to very much dislike having people read things on the internet them come here to check them out (or as I think Luthastro and I both said, confirm), and it seems a Luthastro was one you chewed out for it.

The Holley 5200 series of carbs are licensed copies of the Weber 32/36 DFAV carbs.

But seriously, my Holley Carburetor manual groups the 5200, 5210, and 5220 together and only gives one exploded diagram for the series. I am not very familiar with the Weber line of carbs, but I do believe that the Holley 5200 is a direct copy of the DGV carb, down to the point of having "Licensed from Weber, Italy" cast into the bottom of the float bowl. That being said,

So maybe I am wrong about the DGV, but i do know the 5200 is a copy of a Weber carb.

I have no idea when you did that. I only know I've seen good carb answers from you. Sounds like Haynes could do as well. Are the throttles all on the same sides in all those? I just got my carb from the eBay seller. He calls it a 5210 and it is an awful lot like a DFAV. Oh, I spent 3 hours and 17 minutes looking up Luthastro in all the local phone books. There were so many listed I don't have time to check them all out.

My Holley book shows them all as the same.

I just got it from eBay and it DEFINITELY needs a major cleaning and rebuild. The bowl gasket is so shrunk it cuts across almost half the throats. There's loose corrosion in the bowl and jets. It was apparently hanging in someone's shed for about 20 years. Stuff had fallen down into the throats, etc.

Also the choke is missing. But otherwise it seems OK and for about $18 . . . Pretty much what I wanted. Something that hadn't been through the "Dollar Store" refurb mill, but could be afforded.

You mean the water or electric choke housing or the whole choke? Can you give the ebay address that your carb is on? So, we can see the pics?

I'm pretty sure it was electric. That's what I want. The bimetal, cap and retainer is missing.

Electric or water doesn't really matter. Like I said in the other post, get an electric choke for a 1980 Ford Pinto. If you can give me the #'s off the area where the air cleaner housing sits. I might be able to tell you what it's off of. It looks like it's from the mid 1970's.

I think the seller was right when he said it was off a '73 Vega. It's R-6477-3562. What surprises me from the other thread is that apparently all of these Holley/Weber 5200 series carbs have left side, clockwise throttles. I had got the idea somewhere that Chevies were CCW and Fords were CW. At least the non-Holley Webers seemed that way. Or if I have it backwards - at least there mirror versions iun Weber. Apparently not in Holley/Weber?

I believe that normally the Ford carbs do go counterclock wise. I don't know about chevy's.

Never mind I see the # on the site. He must be right, it's older than what my book has. My book only goes down to 1975 and those #'s start at 348659.
