I got moly rings from northern auto parts. I think they had steel available too.

Dennis,

I'm sure you know about the info in the article, but I'll post it for the benefit of others that may come across this thread.
http://www.aa1car.com/library/ar293.htm

I don't think you'll find ductile or steel rings in the stock bore size. You could probably come close with a metric ring, but it will be narrower. I think a lot of the expense of the 1.5mm turbo 2.2/2.5 rings (a little narrower than 1/16") is due to the fact that they are a ductile ring. This information is causing me to reexamine my piston and ring choice for my turbo 170 project that is still in the planning phase. I don't know if I should build it with stock pistons and rings and have that built in limitation or throw money in the form of custom pistons and ductile rings at the thing.

Gents,

Ductile rings can be had for stock slant 6 pistons (5/64") from:

http://www.totalseal.com

Got 6 on order right now. They actually had 2 in stock and are making the rest.

Harrumph. I used Total Seal rings once. And as the President says, "Fool me once...shame on...shame on me. Fool me twice...won't be fooled again."

Gapless rings have been discussed with people weighing in on the "no problems" side and on the "constant problems" side, see here.

As far as I know, these aren't gapless. I definitely wasn't looking for gapless. I will find out, though.

P. S. - your link no work

These are moly faced ductile iron conventional type rings like come in turbo applications, only sized to fit my stock /6 pistonz...

You can get that type of ring from many sources. It was not necessary to go to Total Seal. Jobber price for Sealed Power E-196K (premium moly ring) is about $50-$60. I have bought several sets in varying sizes on E-bay in the $20-$25 range. The E-196X, is the plain ring
I have no idea, where to get "steel" rings, I was watching this thread for that info.

Charlie, this is not a standard moly faced ring. It is a ductile iron ring. That is in between a plain iron ring and a steel ring in strength, and is recommended for nitrous or mild forced induction.

I'm pretty sure the E-196K is the moly filled ductile iron ring. I will have to dig out the catalog, later to double check that. The E196X is the plain cast iron ring

Did you find anything out further, Charlie? I'm pretty sure Sealed Power/Speed Pro's premium ring is jsut a plasma "moly" coated plain iron ring, not ductile iron.

I haven't found the catalog, yet. Put a lot of them in boxes. I have the trans out of the Cuda. Trying to find why I have a "flair" on the high gear shift. Front clutch fails the air pressure test, but I can't find why. Need to get this taken care of, so I can make the pittsburg race.

Dennis,

I think I may have had a harder time ordering my rings from Total Seal than you did. The tech guy I spoke with, Billy, didn't have specs for slant rings. I went through the Hastings web site to get as much info as possible, but couldn't find enough oil ring info. To make life easier I just ordered ductile top rings from Total Seal and will buy a plain set of Hastings rings to get the 2nd and oil. It was $17.28 for each ductile ring so I'll have $103.68 plus shipping in top rings. The things we do to go fast huh?
