no oil the top of my recently rebuilt engine, so dirt, sludge etc is NOT the issue. i have sprayed 100psi compressed air thru all passages. the cam bearing WAS installed correctly....no oil to the rockers.

so, i removed the rear most cam bearing. no matter how i put it on my cam or how i turn in it, the 2 cam holes are NEVER visible at the same time. it is my understanding that the cam bearing holes should align perfectly at some point in the rotation in order to have oil pressure thru to the rockers, right, or am i missing something?

3rd time i've had a running engine in my B'cuda, third time i've had to break it down. this is starting to both suck and blow!

ok. i perused a bunch of the OLD MESSAGE board stuff and found that this was a common problem with some mopar performance and comp cams....so, i broke out the drill and the die grinder.

the hole was off by +/- .250" so, i drilled a 1/4 inch hole where it should be, then with the die grinder i chamfered the 2 holes together until it looks like a cross drilled crank. then, just for good measure i did the other hole as well. now theres about .500" that lines up as it rotates around.

i hope it oils now.

no, it lined up on both the holes in the block. i measured it based on DD's drawing with measurements of a cam...it was off according to those measurements by just a hair over .200

my own crude measurement were in the .250" range, and if the chafers are a little long, it should be ok.

will find out tomorrow.

well, i hadn't come back to this thread in a while, because i just NOW got my engine running....the whole 318 valves too long fiasco...which (for now) seems to be working out nicely...engine runs real smooth and seems to have gobs of torque (i say this cuz i moved it like 6 feet in my drive way lol)

anyway, the top end oils like a hydraulic motor. there is OIL everywhere up there....its gonna' be REAL messy doing running valve adjustments now. it has as much oil up there as a small block chevy! so, problem solved and if i hadn't decided "since its down, let's put bigger valves in there" this would have been a relatively quick fix!

Thanks for the up-date, good job on the 'fix'.

A reminder... take the time to check the oil passage in the rear cam journal and bearing. We have seen a number of problems with many aftermarket cams, it all boils down to crappy quality control from the cam blank manufacturer.
The cam grinder should also be checking this hole, as well as the person who assembles the engine, to make sure the hole is drill through and properly aligned.
