The nearest place with a drum lathe showed me their work. The 2.5" shoe had 2.25" of contact space! The lathe couldn't reach far enough, leaving almost 3/8" untouched.

I adapted a multi-tool I've been building to mount the drums so they could be spun by hand. A hand rest gave a place to hold my Dremel to s-l-o-w-l-y- remove the rest of the metal. You can see that area plus where I removed some perviously untouched metal. So how's that for doing things the hard way?



When not doing drum turning (99.999999999999% of the time) the unit serves as a tire mounting/demounting rig or holds a nice big vise.

Gret work! I did the same and I can tell how much patience you need in order to accomplish this task.

whoever turned your drums should not be allowed to use that machine. i am an auto technician and have never not been able to cut the whole surface of anything, rotor or drum. i suspect someone was lazy and did not take the time to set up the machine properly. time to find another shop to do your work.

I suspect you are dead right.

Maybe in the future businesses will start finding that making the bottom line the sacred cow and cutting corners on quality of goods and services to inflate it is inevitably hard on - guess what - the bottom line.
