Post subject: How I Spent My Sunday

I went down to southern Indiana for a $2K No-Box race at Graham's New Hope Dragway. The track was built in 1966 by a farmer who was tired of his kids getting busted street racing. This was the most bizarre track I have ever been to. It was literally built in a cow pasture! It was 1/8th mile, all concrete, but the lanes were separate from each other and only 10 feet wide. Shutdown was really short, and the fast cars would run past the return road, back up, and then get off the track. I ended up going red in the third round against the guy who won it. This place is like a $10 hooker. You know you really oughta stay away, but you just can't wait to go back! Doug is gonna post a couple pictures that I took down there. You gotta see it to believe it!

Reminds me of Jacksons Dragway, at Savanna, N.Y. Except they had a traffic light instead of a tree. Handicaps were done on distance, one car spotted further down the track, and both cars started at the same time. Ran there back around 1964 or 65.

Yeah, this place started with a flagman and moved up to a traffic light. They still use a Chrondek timing system. I haven't seen one of them for about 15 years!

Thanks Doug! I was keeping a watch out for a cross-eyed kid with a banjo too!
