Help !

My '64 Valiant is missing whatever device bolts to the body and supports the very ends of the REAR bumper.

There are bolt holes through the trunk, and very droopy bumper-ends, made worse when I have to use the Bumper jack...

What's supposed to go there ???

Does anybody have a source for new, or a couple of spares they'd be willing to part with ?

Actually, it's not a bracket but an oddly shaped rubber nub that's supposed to support the end of the bumper once it's bolted to the body.
I'll check and see if there's a number visible on mine.
As far as a source, you might try Year One or the like, but don't get your hopes up. Try telling them it's for a Barracuda.
Otherwise, used is going to have to suffice.

Layson's calls them:

GG 287 " Valiant rear bumper snubber (bolts to quarter panel)"
... and has this drawing:



Check Year One, the Paddock, etc as well.

There's also a pad that screws to the quarter just above the bumper corners.

I would never have guessed this part was called a "rubber bumper snubber" ( twanger, thingy...)...

I ordered a pair from Layson's today !

Layson's gets slammed here with regularity. I used that photo and their stock numbers because I could get them online pretty easy.
I've only ordered from them once, and had a good transaction. Others have had issues. Some of their stuff is overpriced, so shop around.
I'm glad they do carry some things we can use. The same goes for Year One, The Paddock, etc.

Well, as far as Layson's goes... I'd used them before for some other parts ( gas tank sender floats, strainer sock...), but this morning I had a voice-mail from them informing me of their "$30 minimum order policy"...

You'd think they'd revise their online order process to reflect that and kick-back any order for less than $30 ?

So, maybe there's another widget I can find that I need from them...

At any rate, at least I now know what the name of the part is that holds-up the bumper ends !

It could be worse. I know a guy who restores Kaisers at home (Some kind of doctor by profession). He occasionally has to glue old pieces together, fill in the missing spaces, make molds, and "cast" small rubber and even metal parts.

I just downloaded Gary Goers' catalogue from Here. Whaddya know, right there on page 30 is his part number 287, '64-'65 Valiant rear bumper snubber. H'm, take a look at that Layson's part number, GG287. Suppose GG stands for Gary Goers?

I had some trouble finding Gary's new site... my previous attempts turned-up only his defunct site.

Yes, how about that... and according to Mr. Goer's price list, attached to the PDF download catalog, his snubbers are only $5.90 each... about 1/4th of what the "other vendor" is asking.


I will be doing an order from Mr. Goers this week, as he has quite a few goodies that I need for my '60 Windsor as well as the elusive bumper snubbers...

Be ready to wait a long time for your Goers order. Not because he is a con artist, but because he is perpetually seriously overworked. Same deal with Imperial Services guy, whose name escapes me at the moment. Theirs is a real dilemma: They are providing badly needed but extremely low-volume parts and the only way to do so without unrealistically high prices is to keep operating costs low, and that means no hired staff and pretty much doing everything themselves. It quickly becomes an overload situation even at the trickle-volume provided by getting off (or almost off) the internet as Goers has done. While it's difficult and frustrating, I try my best to give those guys a LOT of time and leeway, because they really are genuinely doing it as a labour of love.

Layson's just a greedy åss, same with Clifford and Mitchell.
