That came from a Salt water air environment. Some pitting but not bad. Can it be done cheaply?

Not if you're trying for a restoration to factory-type appearance rather than something cheesy like spray paint. Seems like most of the places that do the necessary process (called "Brite-Dip") charge heftily for it. But my data's old, maybe there's someone doing it well and reasonably nowtimes. You could, I suppose, strip the existing anodising and have the grille polished and then clear-coat it.

I see these grilles go by brand new all the time on the Argentine eBay
site, http://www.mercadolibre.com.ar . They were used on the Argentine
Valiant III (only difference, no "D O D G E" lettering in the centre).

I've bought from this seller before and had a satisfactory experience;
our Argentine King here on the board might be able to comment in more
detail.

Thanks Dan. Great source but a tad bit expensive. I've got a source on a junkyard one that the guy says is slightly dented.

Also thanks for setting me stright on the ATF/Gear oil thing. I thought all A-833s took a heavier oil than ATF

hey man

if you're looking for a good appearance and you don't mind de-anodising the piece, you can take off al dents, then using a small/medium roto-orbital sander you can level the surface (using dry abbrasive, those aleatory pattern sanders don't leave deep schartches, you can start with a 120 grit paper, then move on to 360 and it will look like if you wet sanded it with 1500 grit wet sand paper) then you can buff it with soft cotton cloth (non stitched) and tripoli (light pressure) then as dan says, clearcoat (any 1 component lacquer or 2 components lacquer would do it, I use automotive lacquer) but previous to the clearcoat you might wanna add the "master touches" by painting all the details in black, THEN clearcoat them.

Having the grille anodised shouldn't be that expensive... but I don't know nothing about pricing on that kind of work up there.

So if I clear-coat my polished aluminum, I'll never have to polish it again? Might be just what the doctor ordered for a project I've been thinking about.

exactly. I have my alternator done that way: polished and then clearcoated. Much more brighter and cheaper than powermasters :D

POR-15 is supposed to have a top line clear that never fogs etc.

Not so much, when you do the conversion. Argentina uses the $ sign for their currency, but that doesn't mean it's the same currency!

Exchange rate:

$100 (Argentine) = $32.31 (US dollars)
