I'm building my first slant six. It will power a 65 Coronet, 3 speed manual with no frills...sleeper/family cruiser.I already have a electronic ignition and a 390 cfm holley ( on a 2bbl manifold.
Problem is I've read the bad rap that Chad gave on the comp. 264s cam. I've already got this cam but haven't installed it yet.
Anyone have any good experiences with this cam?
Please cheer me up.

I run this camshaft in my 86 Dodge van, nine and one-half to one compression and super 6 carbon intake, electronic ignition, goes like hell. Not a racing cam but works very good for heavier vehicle. Don't set your exhaust valves to the factory specs. for the cam. I set mine at 16 thou and they work good.

I run a 264 Comp Cam in my 71 Valiant. My setup is a bit different than some others as I chose a Holley 500cfm 2bbl but for my application the cam works well. After running it for a year and a half I think I could have gone with a cam with a bit more lift and duration as I've been continuing to modify the engine. Ever since I dropped a few dollars into some headwork, I think a 270 degree cam w/.480 or so lift would work better. If you're going to modify the engine a little (stock valve sizes, no 'high dollar' headwork) the cam should perform well for you.
Good Luck!

Gotta Love Slants!

That would be a fancy typo. That was suppose to be super 6 carburator and manifold. We spell a little different in British Columbia. lol

My friend used this cam in his volarE. It idles about the same as stock, had "better" low end but the motor didnt make alot power till you wound it up high!

This cam will work pretty good for what you have in mind, it is kind of a "level 1" profile.
Most racers will tell you that a comp 264 is to mild for a race SL6

One thing nice about this cam is that the lash settings are pretty tight (.012I &.016E) which makes it good for "mostly street" duty. Hey, you have this cam, give it a try.
Are you using the full syncrow A230 3-speed? If not, find one!

Doug,
Thanks for the advice.....Now
What's a A230 3speed.?...It's surly not what I have now. Downshits are currently next to impossible and I can already tell that power shifting this thing will take it's toll. Where can I find a A230?
