I always thought the old Mopar logo was DCPD for Daimler Chrysler Parts Division ie: Mopar. Am I wrong?

Yes, you're wrong. Diamler is a very recent "addition". The Logo is for the four vehicle divisions of Chrysler Corp.

DeSoto
Chrysler
Plymouth
Dodge

Actually, if you're reading left to right, it's D-P-C-D:

Dodge, Plymouth, Chrysler, DeSoto.

The vertical of the "P" is extended down to stand next to the vertical of the "D", so there is some opinion that the extended vertical is meant to be a stylised "I", for "Imperial". I believe this is revisionist, for the Imperial division didn't exist in the 1930s when this logotype was designed. But then, I don't own an Imperial, either! The DPCD logotype appeared on Chrysler Corp. parts for many years after DeSoto was gone, well into the '70s.

Mopar logo history here.
