I was researching alternative brake options for Mopar Kelsey-Hayes disc brakes and found a few references to the interchangeability of the early Mustang (65-67) disc brakes. The Mustangs seemed to have used the same disc brake hub and rotor assembly from 65 to 67. As for calipers, there was one for the 65-66 Mustangs and another for the 67s.

I see that SlantSixDan had a comparison of the two calipers. On the For A-Bodies Only brake board, someone reported that the Mustang GT hub & rotor bolt onto the K-H spindle.

Has anyone had any experience using early Mustang disc brake components in place of the the K-H components?

Well, I used pad retainer clips from a local Mustang restoration shop, but I guess you meant something more substantial...

Sorry for the slow response Frank....still trying to pry away the cobwebs on this one.

About 27 years ago I put a set of KH Mustangs discs on a 49 Chev panel for a guy.....If I recall correctly I had to sub in a rotor off a KH A body. I think all I did was use the Chev hub.....and redrill for the Chev pattern. The hubs are separate from the rotor.....and I seem to remember that the Mustang and Chryco hubs were the same except for bearings.

A quick check of Bearing ODs (both inner and outter) would go a long way to proving my memory either effective or imaginative.

Both the Mopar K-H disc brake (and 10" drum brakes) and Mustang disc brakes use inner bearing NAPA PGBPBR6. Both disc brakes (and the 10" drum brakes) use outer bearing NAPA PGBPBR2. However, the K-H disc brakes use seal NAPA NOS17110 whereas the Mustang disc brakes use seal NAPA NOS19219.

I think you use Mustang rotor and hub with Chryco bearings and seals.(to fit spindle)
