I have a 225 slant six with an auto tranny I just purchased an auto-meter speedometer. I was breaking cables before this speedometer that was the reason I purchased the speedometer. When the cable is unhooked from the speedometer it turns while diving when hooked up it twist of either at the speedometer or the tranny sometimes both. has anyone else had this problem? My outside black cable is a little short and it leaves about an inch of exposed inner cable and the 5/8-18 speedometer end is hose clamped on to the outer cable I think this is going to end up being my ultimate problem, but I want to be sure before I spend the money for a complete new cable.

The too-long core/too-short casing is causing your problem. The cable's binding up and twisting off. Install a complete new cable and your problem should stop.

Any Ideas where I can pick up a complete new cable? I agree this is my problem the speedometer has not worked in this truck since I got it, pretty soon the local law enforcement will be telling me exactly how fast I am going !!
