well, this is from a forum in Argentina called "dodge-tech"

wouldn't you say that this is an awesome job?

http://img176.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img1667jz5.jpg

is performed on a dodge 1500 (talbot avenger or hillman avenger, english small car from UK chrysler division, that went into production down here nder the Dodge brand)

Is that really a slant 6 head? Doesn't look like it to my eyes. If it is, that's a lot of welding and a nice job...

lou, it's a 4 cyl "dogge 1500" (talbot, hillman, whatever) head. Notice how they welded those intake runners to the head... and the welding, filling and milling work is absolutely stunning!

Fede, about CR, my guess would be that being a short stroke and very radically cammed engine (talking about the 1500 engine that this head was conceived to work on) the effective dynamic compression ratio would be so small that I wouldn't get shocked if the static CR is on the 12:1 ballpark to produce good cyl pressure readings.

Diffrent story would be doing that thing on a /6 head, I?d like to track down whoever did this head and have mine built by him, my guess would be that probably the filling on the sides of the chambers would be less and the CC'ing of the head a little higher...

isn`t the Slant cylinder head a delicate thing to work on? I understood that this part is better to leave it with its original size, because it makes the explotion recicles accelerate to the manifold, lettin the Slant a good intake and outtake...

My Slant has 1mm less in it,, but I preffer to lower the block...

Argentinian "geniuses" often say that cyl heads should be left stock and lower the block, well that still renders a lot of compression with a bad combustion chamber shape. Slant heads have open chamber design. Is better to work on the shape, and get the compression umbers OK once you CC the head (measure the amount of volume that each chamber holds) Read some of Doug Dutra's (called The Doctor Dodge for very good reasons) articles in the articles section and you'll see clear!

And for what is worth, have you ever seen an odl ACTC head with heart shaped chambers? it has more or less the same work as this picture!

there's a lot of misinformation for slant sixes going around especially down here at home, where chevy and ford fans always wanted to keep the /6 sleeping, we even have to stand our own 318 fans dodge "friends" and hear them talk BS about the /6...

A "religious attachment" to a favorite engine or family of engines isn't unusual. In fact, dare I say it, there are no doubt some even on this board that suffer the same malady. I just smile and nod and let them ramble on with their nonsense.

That is very cool work....

dakight, you made me laugh man! what an accurate comment, I see there's the same going on everywhere around...

sandy, I don't think that there's many cracks... most of them must have been covered by the fancy red paint! kinda the same as the "duct tape roll on tremclad" recipe  kidding aside, the work is amazing... I wouldn't spend that money on a friggin hillman 4 cyl head though, but... If I'm to do such a heavy mod on a cyl head, I'll seek for the artisain that got that one modified. Very clean work! I remember the first time I did a stick weld on a piece of cast iron and I just wanna trow myself off something really high :D

CStryker... if you look carefully you'll see a big circle (diffrent shade) around each set of 2 valves, that was the combustion chamber's original shape, and much much more deep than that, the work done there is heating the entire head till is dull red on a steelsmith oven, then fill with nickel or other cast iron suitable coated rod, then do the hearthshape by hand with a grinder, then polish, then mill it for desired CC and such. It's a ton of work...
