Just by looking at it, my guess is to take off the dust cover and then remove it with a big socket. Is now the time to possibly replace the wheel bearings? Will this procedure be more or less difficult than the rear drum shoe replacement? Thanks for ANY help.

About the same as the rear (and you don't have to worry about the parking brake linkage)

If the bearings are good, you don't need to replace them.

Just clean and relube and replace the inner grease seal.

You should not need a socket to take the nut off, just a large pliers.
