well, the 302 is one nice motor (yeah, sure)... at least the valiant got saved if you don't pop the hood too often... that poor car sure got it bad under the hood... it's a butcher's work in there!

He's got the engine tilted back, obviously because he didn't want to re-work the trans tunnel, and that's the only way the engine/trans combination would fit unless the trans tunnel was lifted and enlarged. Rule no. 1 of engine swaps for carbureted engines is that the engine must sit level; otherwise you get all kinds of carb problems.

I have a copy of that Hot Rod article where they put a Chevy 283 in a '60 Valiant. It's pretty dumb. They even left the original 13" wheels on the car.

An early-series "Exner Special" Valiant with a hot 360 V8 in it, wide 15" wheels, and other big-car running gear, is pretty amazing. My car has a power-to-weight ratio of about 7:1. It will pop a wheelie, so you have to be careful. The acceleration is hard to believe.

Is this the car in which you're having trouble keeping the steering gear adjusted?

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.
