Okay, here's the pictures I took of the Puterd (pooh-turd). The truck obviously got it's name because it's a piece of crap, it will eventually be painted chocolate brown. I was also considering giving it a surname or pseudonym...The Eliminator, or Puterd Elimanator. This is based on the fact that whenever I asked the previous owner where the air breather was, or where the parking brake was, or where the windshield wipers were, you get the point, he would simply reply "Oh, it's been eliminated." Anyway, these are the pics of what it looked like while I was working on the rearend. The engine compartment looks a lot better since I've cleaned it up, i.e. put the pickup coil in its proper spot etc.

Well this should be good for a laugh anyway....

The guy who sold it to your fiance (obviously a Chebby-guy) should be shot.

On the bright side, the truck looks like it found a good home. :)

Oh man! $600! I don't think I would have let him unload it on my block let alone at my place.

Judging from the photos you must be one freaking optimist.

After seeing your pics, the blue truck pic of mine in your other thread that I offered as a parts truck, is no where near this bad. It's a solid truck except for the top of the cab along the drip rail. If you need or want a 225 D150, it would be better use mine as the main truck and your's for parts.

I'd have a hard time putting any more $ in what you have there. The bad part would be disappointing your fiance's good intension of buying you a truck. It may make her feel bad by giving up on it, but that's a serious project you have there.

If you do try to fix it up and need some parts, I do have an '83 D150 that is nothing but a parts truck. A lot is already gone, so not much to pick from. It may have something you need. It's located in Howey-in-the-Hills if you know where that is.

It's actually not quite as bad as it looks. Obviously there's some body work that needs to be done, but it's probably85-90% rust free. I want to get a new front clip, which I may have if I take Cecil up on his offer. Need to cut and weld in a new floorboard on the drivers side. And I've already bought so much as far as external engine components go. Yeah, I'm optimistic, but like I said before, my stepdad is one hell of a body man. But Cecil is right too, I'd probably start off by using the '87 while rebuilding my '83. We'll see. It should be fun for all of us to watch this beast of a thing come alive.

Yeah, it looked bad at night in the dark, but it looks worse in the daylight. I told him that night that I'd give him $150, but he started pissing and moaning about a new clutch and yada yada yada! He already had the money, so, whatever, just get the @#$% out of here, you know? It'll all work out in the end....

There's a lot missing there but I see a lot of "extras" as well! I especially love the extra long throttle spring held on with a piece of rope and the custom wood bumper. I also like the removable fuse panel, makes changing the fuses easy.

Seriously though, this truck is in a lot better shape than the first car that I ever owned- a 1975 Chevy Nova that was sitting half submerged in a lake for a few weeks. It wasn't pretty but once I got it running you couldn't kill it.
I'm certainly glad to see more optimists in the world. My wife certainly doesn't see the potential in any of the projects that I have brought home.
Good luck!

Russ

Wow, you've got a lot more work ahead of you than I imagined. The only good part about getting that many lemons is the fact you end up w/ a virtually unlimited supply of lemonade when you're done. You certainly have a positive outlook, if you're willing to take that on. I wish you the best of luck, though, and keep us posted on the progress!

p.s. I actually considering constructing such a bumper for my truck at one time... If I used it for a work truck, I think I probably would have.

That seems to be a common problem on approx '80-'85 trucks with that type of fuse box. The plastic gets old and brittle, then the retaining tab breaks off.
I had an '85 that was hanging by '89, my '82 didn't let loose till '04, so far my '84 still has it's fuse box hanging like it should.
The fuse box was behind the glove box door in the '70s. In '86 or '87, they used a better mounting system.

Yeah, I'm going to make a new one in the same fashion, only the correct way, where I don't have to hold it up with bungees. It will be for work, so I'm going to route Handyman Josh into it, kiss the writing with a propane torch, and teak oil the whole thing. It should look sweet one day.

And don't worry, I'll definately keep you all posted. Afterall, I'll probably be asking plenty more questions throughout the whole process.

I would buy Cecils truck if I were you. Your truck has obviously been through hell and is a ticking time bomb. It would make a good truck to haul the trash off with but I wouldn't depend on it too much.

I generally have a low tolerance for those who abuse vehicles and then dump them on someone else. They took advantage of your fiance with that one. I would be very pissed if I were you.

No, I'm thrilled about it! Of course I'm pissed off Jeb, but what are you gonna do? I could go beat the snot out of the guy, but it's not going to make the truck any nicer. He's not welcome in my home, I don't have to look at him or talk to him, so it's pretty much as good as it's going to get.

And I feel that I should give the exact details of why he was able to pull one over on my girl. I'm sure a lot of you are thinking, "Man, why the hell would she agree to that?" She wouldn't. Here's the deal. They've been friends since Jr. High, and the truck used to belong to his father, and was a nice truck for as long as she had known it. So when he told her he wanted to sell her his dad's old truck for me, she thought it was just how she had remembered it. So she thought we were stealing it from him. I guess she didn't figure he'd hacked it all up and went on the full swamp tour with it. Oh well, that's just life. If he hadn't already gotten the money from her before he dropped it off, it wouldn't be here. But he knew I'd never agree to it, so he went through her and got the money before we ever even saw the truck. That's what happens when you trust people. That's why I never agree to anything without looking at it, even when people are trying to give it to me for free. "You want my stump-grinder? All you gotta do is pick it up.", "I'll come take a look at it." It's that simple. But yes, I am interested in Cecils truck too! Thanks.
