I was thinking about modifying the windshield wiper switch to have more than 3 speeds. It'd be nice to accommodate for mist and other light precipitation. I'd like to rig in a more modern switch with a delay between motor rotations. The appearance must be stock.
Any ideas or experience?

Earlier cars like my '66 Dart had variable speed wipers. Sounds like you want modern intermittent wipers. You can retrofit them, but the control box hardly looks stock. Are you daily driving a show car or what?

There are several aftermarket intermittent wipe controllers available. There're the cheesy Taiwanese ones from JC Witless, and there are good ones from Bosch and Hella for about, if I remember correctly, $65. Some people have made their own.

I Made One Using The Guts Of A control Module Out Of A Newer Car... I Think It Was A New Yorker ( The J / M Body; Not A K-Car ) I Lucked Out By Finding All The Wiring Diagrams I Could Ever Hope For At A Public Library, And Went To Town With A Soldering Gun.

It's going to be a daily driver and the car will look entirely stock with the exception of the engine compartment. I intend on hiding the controls and leaving the disconnected stock switch in the cluster. Intermittent wipers sounds like a fun project. Off to the junkyard!

Don't Clutter Up The Space Between The Dash And Firewall!, Don't Have A Control Panel In Your Dash Purely For Esthetics!, Don't Force Yourself To Give Your Insturment Cluster A Reacharound Just To Operate The Wipers! ( Esp. While You're Driving Around In The Rain! ) Use The Junk Yard Parts To Alter Your Exsisting Panel Into A Functioning Intermittent Module. It Does Take Some Planning As Far As The Wiring Is Concerned, As Well As Some Patience With Building Small Components; But Is WELL Worth The Effort! User Friendly, Yet Visually Appealing Wiper Controlls.

Oh, I Forgot To Mention In My Other Reply, That You Will Want To Snag The Wiper Motor In Addition To The Control Head From The Donor Car..

I thought that writing style looked pretty cool myself...sort of fancy.

I am in the process of changing out the gauges in my Dart for aftermarket gauges, but I am retaining all of the old switches, to at least try them (or until I can find their functional equivalents). One thing that made me want to keep the old switches was the trouble I was having finding new switches with the exact same characteristics. I really did want to keep more of an '60s look, too. It's cool to hear about people retrofitting new electronics in the old dashes and keeping the old look. Got any pictures of your work?

I'm Currently Doing the Same. My Light Switch, When I Turn it All the Way Up for the Brightest Dash Lights, the Dash Lights Go Off. I found an OEM style replacement Light switch at Kragen, it was $13. I haven't installed it yet, so I can't testify to its quality, but it couldn't be much worse than a sticky 30+ year old switch. I did put in a gas gauge this weekend though (in a tempory spot), and it works. No more running out of gas.

I just received the new (Feb. '07) Mopar Action in the mail, and there is an article about fitting aftermarket gauges, etc. into an A-body. Just a FYI.
