I can't tell you in degrees but I would set it at the same angle as your old rear end. Mopar sells shims if you need to adjust it.

The idea is to have the driveline as straight as possible with the pinion and transmission tailshaft. Less angle in the u-joints means less vibration in the driveline and longer life for the joints.

Ron, I am putting in a ford 8.8. I think I may have to crawl under and measure the angles. I am going with the jc whitney heavy duty leafs.

Transmission tailshaft and pinion shaft must be parallel. Or pretty darn close. Paul

Pinion should be 3-5 degrees down.

Agreed...
2-3 degrees on street cars, 5+ degrees on drag cars, especially the ones that leave hard.
The rear end knuckle will rotate upward when you put torque to the assembly.
If the driveline is 'dead flat' with no angle, it tends to vibrate.

Folks,

My recent wrestling with clutch chatter only to dissemble find no grease or oil on clutch disc showed two likely contributors: excess grease on the TOB and the pinion yoke and tranny yoke angles varied as much as 5 degrees.

I think mismatched angles had more to do with my driveline problem than did the grease since the grease wasn't on the disc yet, though it sure would have been after I drove a while (only had less than 50 miles). The angle was off because I made an new crossmember and changed every part of the rear end inclding the housings and springs when swapping in a A833OD for an A745 3 speed and putting in a postraction rear end and having new balanced driveshaft made. I did measure the yoke angles before disassembly. Upon adding in a 489 diff. case in replacement of the 741 case I saw the pinion in the 489 was offset whereas the 741 was centered. Because the 489 pinion was not exactly in the same X - Y space as the 741, the angle was off a tad. I did what the lazy man does...said well, I will run it a see if it matters. It does! After a few more road miles I will report back. I am unsure yet if it is finally all quiet, or if the chatter will reappear with harder acceleration.
