 Post subject: LONG ROD?
PostPosted: Sun Jan 13, 2002 1:37 pm
i saw in a machine shop longer rods that the ones in 198 cid...they are 20cm!!! from center to center..the piston pin is floating with a bushing...22 mm aproximately.
the rod was 3 cm wide fronm the bottom.

looked good quality, with good bolts etc.

you can find these from JAGUARS...if you can use that long rod in a de-stroked 225?
for what? i do not know, but it seems like you actually could find a better quality long rod maybe from a european engine...? have to investigate.

actually i could need a rod that is in midlle of 198 & 225 rod...do you know any that would suite a 225 crank??

The big problem with finding other rods to fit a SL6 is that the SL6 crank pin (rod journal) is real wide. It measures right around 1.210 inches so someone do the math, that 3 cm (or 30 mm) rod may be wide enough and 20 cm long, that almost 8 inches!
Are they forged steel?
Trouble is that I don't see many Jag engines in the junk yards around here!

There are others;

Chevy (big block?)
6.813 long 2.315 large end bore 1.429 width

forging # 3835274, 3835324, 3835609, 3701890

The width can be cut down no problem.

I've seen 7"+ long rods for modified BB Chevy too, but I've never tried them. J&M engine dynamics in Nebraska, or Cox Bros in Ohio can get you custom hipo rods too.
