I have converted my 69 valiant to a 73-76 disc brake setup. I am assembling it all and have a couple of questions.

First - Why does the article on moparaction.com show the brake caliper in the front side of the spindle? Mine appears to be correct on the rear side.

Second - Look at the pic below. I know what the big metal brackets and bolts are for, but what are the rest of the parts, i.e., rubber bands and little clips

third- Where can I get the caliper banjo bolt? I have either lost them from what I bought from ebay or it did not come with it. The new calipers and hoses came with copper washers, but I cannot find the banjo bolts.

The late-A knuckles can be swapped side to side and the slider calipers mounted to the rear, which gives a little more room for factory type sway bars on early A-bodies.
Mopar Action's Richard Ehrenberg keeps them to the front because of brake hose issues. He also likes the pin calipers, as I recall.
Rear mounted calipers do require attention to the brake hoses because the routing is different. It also means that you have to consider the bleeding arrangements.
I use the Volare calipers and hoses, mounted to the rear. Bleed screws are at the top, and the hoses clear my tires.

the small clip goes on the bolt before the large clip. helps prevent the pads from rattling when you hit a bump. i believe th small end of the smaller clip fits in the hole in the larger one and the other end of the small clip keeps it straight.

Your Dodge deal should be able to get the Bango bolt and washers. Tell them it for a 74 Dart with disks. I just bought them 6 days ago. $7 each plus washers. In the hose area I used The same Dart type hose. The hose mounting block on the dart hoses were a bit thicker than the hoses that came in my kit. The kit hose in my oppion were wrong, but the bango bolt that came with them would hold the dart hoses but the bolt held only by a few threads. The dart bango bolts are longer.

Brennan,
which disc brake kit did you put on that gorgeous 67 'Cuda....?
I'm lookin' to do a disc conversion on my '71 Dart keeping the SBP (currently 9" drums) most of the kits (other than Scarebird) that I've seen
require goin' to LBP...(?)

It seems their kit only converts the 10" drum setup though...

10" drum spindles should be easy to find, though, right?

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and assume the answer would be...
YES 10" drum spindles should be easy to find!

At the risk of sounding like one of the "influx of /6.com'ers" (which I am!)with yet another moronic question....

What does swapping to 10" spindles entail? any backing plate or ball joint issues I should be aware of?

My HS shop teacher told me (over 30 yrs. ago) "There's no such thing as a 'stupid question'- the only stupid questions are the ones you never bothered to ask"

thanks!

I used MP Brakes kit. It is a LBP kit and had to buy new wheels.

I'm pretty sure the 10" spindles would swap right in with no interference issues, and backing plates would not be used with the disk upgrade. Someone better-informed will likely correct me if necessary, and you should contact SSB to confirm everything before purchase.

thanks, just got off the phone with Bob at SSBC,
in a search for a set of 10" spindles, He recommended calling a couple places down in in Fla; Mopar by Crane and G&D, and Stevens Performance in Ala. So far, I've struck out at all three, although they said they'd check some of their sources and get back to me...

Anyone else have any potential sources? Just to recap here;
I'm looking to swap out my 9" drum brake spindles to 10" spindles in order to utilize a SBP disc brake conversion kit from SSBC...

Maybe I'm going about this the wrong way? My thinking is to keep the SBP, so as to avoid having to also swap the rears (or carry 2 spare tires!) I realize that with the LBP there is a much better selection of wheel/rim choices- and I'll probably need to change my OEM poverty rims with the SBP conversion kit due to caliper clearance (?)
(I knew there was something I forgot to ask Bob / SSBC)
Has anyone ever used those 5x4 to 5x4.5 wheel adaptor plates?
Maybe I could use a pair of those on my rears, and go 15" LBP all around? I don't know, something just feels cheezy about those adaptor plates.
Sorry for the long winded post, but this disc brake conversion thing is drivin' me a lil' nuts! thanks again...

In my opinion, your "cheezy feeling" with the adapters is well-merited — DON'T use adapters. They may hold up forever, but your risking the safety of the people around you if one lets go at 70 mph...

I've seen 10" spindles pop up ALL the time on Ebay, since they're used for the "big brake" conversions.

Also, let me introduce you to a friend of mine:

http://www.car-part.com/

Plenty of entries for what you're looking for.

As for converting to big bolt pattern, let me ask you — do you want a larger selection of wheels? If so, then yes, you may want to go that route. For my part, I'm happy with the small-bolt options I've found. Rallyes are available in 14-15", and Billet Rallyes come in 16-18", and Coy's C-5s are available in 17-20". There are a few others, too. I like all of the styles listed, so I've never felt the need to go to the hassle and expense of switching to BBP, but that's a choice only you can make.

I'm certainly not an authority on brake upgrades, though, and keep hoping someone smarter will chime in...?

VM-

thanks for the introduction to 'your friend'...
I've tried a few of those other 'salvage yard search sites',
but http://www.car-part.com/ is much better-

Didn't realize you could get 15" Rallyes with the SBP(?)
(without going custom; Stockton Wheel etc...)
The ONLY reason I considered going LBP, was concern over caliper clearance, as I wanted to use Police Rally's with 9" dog dish caps-
(being less than 20 mls. from NYC, with the abundance of police cars & taxi cabs that get trashed every year, they shouldn't be hard to find!)
I currently have 4 brand new/old stock OEM 14" SBP poverty rims that I'd use with the dog dishes, but I know they won't clear any of the aftermarket disc conv. kits... So, either way it looks like I'm gonna need to buy 4 new rims-
I e-mailed a couple of the listers on car-parts.com, and put a "saved search" on EBay for the 10" spindles...
It amazes me how much the 'complete' old rusty OEM disc setups fetch on Ebay!
