I have a battery that was used about 1 month. I has been in the car about a year but disconnected. Is there a way to bring the battery back to life. I have not tried charging on a battery charger yet, I have heard you reverse the terminals for a few minites than back to the right way and this will get rid of the suflate? Anyone have a way they tried or do I just have to bite the big one and buy a new battery?
Thanks
Frank

Do not reverse the terminals. It will not help anything.

The best shot you have at reversing sulphation is to make sure all the cells are filled to the top by adding distilled water until it "puckers" at the bottom of the tube that protrudes downward into the cell from the top surface of the battery, replace the fill caps, then use a very slow charge rate (less than 5 amps) for a very long time.

Try this

http://www.shaka.com/~kalepa/desulf.htm

read the 'original article'
http://www.homepower.com/files/desulfator.pdf
then goto http://www.shaka.com/~kalepa/lowpower.htm

I made one and it really worked with an old marine battery I have.

Note: doesn't work if you have a shorted cell.

Thanks Dan and ED
It really goes against my grain to reverse the terminals. ( I was an electrician by trade) The battery is still full so I will try the 2 amp charge rate first. If that doesnt work I build the pulse circuit.
Thanks again
Frank

Under similar circumstances, I've found that hooking it to a maintence charge for many weeks sometimes brings 'em back enough to be useful. I've tried the over/reverse charging, dropping, desulfation chemicals, desulfation pulsing, etc. w/o no success.

Once, on a battery w/ a leak that had been slowly getting diluted, I fixed the leak and dumped out the old acid and put in fresh stuff and got another couple of years, but that didn't work the next time I tried it.

Thanks KBB I have it on 2 amp charge and we will see if it works. I just hate to throw a 1 month use battery away. :(
