i was lookign at springs and shocks for my car yesterdy on summit, thinking about the kyb shocks and then the "Drag-Launch"springs that are rated for 3,200 lbs. then the 0.92 torsion bars, does this sound like a good setup for a stock car? i am planing on doing the disc brake swap and then a narrowed 8 3/4 rear, but i wanna get the springs and shocks hammered out first, i went to jegs and they have a compleate kit with the 2,800 lb. springs and the smaller 0.91 (i think) torsion bars, which sounds like a better package for handling and racing? ohh and the jegs says for 8 3/4 rears only, im assuming because of the pinion snubber?

What kind of handling, and what kind of racing? Drag, autocross, rallycross, road racing, rally ... ?

Rear leafs for drag racing are just that. Heavy front torsion bars like a .92" or bigger are for handling. They won't let the front end come up and transfer weight so well for drag racing. For drag racing the stock slant bars would work best with the right shocks. A good street setup would be firm but not overkill. A slant is not going to pull the front end off the ground and will not be hard to hook up on the street. I would use stock 5 leafs in the rear.

I have JC Whitney 5 leafs on my '66 with a pair of Lakewood slapper bars and wore out stock shocks.

Front end is stock torsion bars and wore out shocks.

It did not get hard to hook until I went to a low gear set in the trans with a 150 shot.

Just for argument sake, my car was going 1.58 in the 60 foot compared to Mike Jeffry's Valiant going 1.53 at RT 66. His car is ladder bar on 12" slicks. Mine is on 8" ET Streets. :shock:

the car would be for primary street duty/daily driver, w/ some drag racing on the weekends, but a good handling street car mostly, im only planning on running a 3.23 gear for now so traction shouldent be a proplem, just want to keep up w/ the local ricer kids and show them what can be done to older iron
