Ok

I bought a 8 1/4 out of a 74 duster it is all apart but was cheap enough. I got it home and it is an open rear with 3.55 ratio. A week later I found another one out of a 75 dart all together this time and an sure grip for the same price(':D'). I opened it up and it's a 3.21 ('')

Now my Question. Should I keep the 3.21 or pull the good rear apart and throw the 3.55 in. Will I notice much of a difference on modified slant with stock converter? Input and experiences appreciated

Thanks
Brent

Personally I'd leave the 3.21 together and run it. You won't see enough difference between the 21 and 55 to warrant the trouble of tearing it apart.

If your engine works well with a stock converter the 3.21 should be just right all around. Even with with realistic street v-8s and tires around 25" - 26" diameter I have always liked ratios in the 3.20 to 3.40 range. When you get to 3.5 to 3.7 ratios it is just over the line for highway driving unless it is a high rpm engine or a truck with larger tires.

Or you have one of the Overdrive transmissions then it is just fine.... (and actually makes the first 3 gears really "fun" in town).

Thanks for the input. I guess I'll keep the 3.21's and maybe use the other as a spare just in case or use it for some $$$ towards something else.
