I want to make Medford and Redding this year... What tech requirements are there for the drags? Assume I know nothing about this stuff, cause I don't. :D

Safety gear... What do I need? Snell, date codes on harnesses? Stuff like that?

I would go to the racetrack web sites they should have complete tech requirements All the tracks I have been to have the rules on their site. Most tracks will not allow any thing but water for coolant, no more than 12" of rubber fuel line, in new jersey you have to wear a helmet for any racing but here in PA you only need a helmet if you are going (I think it's 13.99 but I cant go that fast so I don't remember exactly) 13.99 or faster.

Doug wrote a good primer on the bracket racing:

I do not know about Medford but I do know that it is pretty easy to get teched-in at Redding. At one of last year's events, they collected all the tech cards, gave out numbers and never looked under the hood of a single SL6 car.

HI CJ..It depends on how fast you go...Redding has a good website...(reddingraceway.com) You can then get a NHRA rule book and there is lots of information in there. If you are not a NHRA member, you can always pick up a copy at your local Barnes and Noble or pick up a old copy from one of your racing friends. Then you can call them and order a current copy of the rule book from NHRA. Most of the cars at Redding/Medford are almost pure stock slant6 cars. Some drive them to and from the track. You can always email me or Doug or call the track number directly and get answers . The main thing is to be safe...You won't have to comply with the rules for faster cars that run faster than 13.99 such as harness', roll bars, external shut offs, ect. If you basically have a clean, safe, stock or slightly modified slant6 car, there should be do problem. The tech people are there to help you make your car safe...Our website is a excellent choice for "help" with your questions. We have lots of time before May 5th, so please continue with your specific questions..Glad you are going to make May 5th at Redding a "record" slant6 event..thanks, Wayne in Chicoi

I was looking at the website for the track at Redding.

The website for Medford was broken last night.

Looks like all I need is my car and my seat belts. Should be good to go!

My Parking brake is pretty weenie, are they going to care about that?

Thanks!

CJ

Hi CJ...With the help of a few more "first timers" like yourself, we will make May5th the biggest slant6 turnout ever on the West Coast. There are a couple of really good slant6 racers coming from the Eugene area. You might want to "hook up" with them . Paul Olds (Six Par) has a really rare and "up and coming" B-Body Plymouth that seems to run faster and faster each time he shows up. Maybe it likes the good warm air there at Redding. I am sure he could answer some of your questions about tech and might even want to "hook up" when you guys come to Redding. We don't start running time trials until around 12:00 so very easy for you to leave early on Sat morning and be there in plenty of time . There is another slant6 car from that area, "Richard-The-Sandbagger"...also known as "Fopar"...he has promised in the past to make Redding this year. He really has a unique combo and very competitive. He ran local slant6 favorite Glenn Terry at the Woodburn finals last year..I won't tell you who won. If you ever come just once to Redding, you will be back again and again. What a great bunch of slant6 owners. Also, our 'Killer Bee Racing Team' won the National team title last season. You as well as any new first time racers will get your team T-Shirt for just showing up at Redding and then you will be officially a member. There are so few races for slant6 cars here on the West Coast that you will not want to miss any of them. Thanks for "stepping up to the plate" and letting all of us on the website know that you are planning to come to Redding on May 5th. , Wayne in Chico

Hi Wayne,

Paul and I have hooked up! I met with him a couple of months ago, and we have talked about making the trip in a slant six mini-convoy. He has a photo album of last year's trip. It looks like a blast!

I plan to be there even if I'm still running tall gears.. :D

Thanks!

CJ

Hi CJ...The tall gears won't be a problem. There will be many first timers there along with a couple of "gals" that really cut good lights . Most will have basically stock slant6 cars and many have tall gearing. See you at Redding...Wayne

Unlikely that they'd hassle you about the parking brake. If the problem is that the brake is too loose, you might wanna tighten it up anyway for your own piece of mind.

Looking at the Infineon (Sears Point) rules, on pg.3 I noticed "no plastic oil lines in driver compartment." If you have an aftermarket oil pressure gauge w/plastic line, you might want to have a cap handy in case you need to disconnect it for the tech guys. But it sounds like they're more lenient at Redding than Infineon.

Nothing worse than driving for hours to a strip, paying entrance and not being allowed to run.

 Hey Ceej, this comes under the "strange but true" heading. Racing in shorts and/or a tank top is a no-no. While some tracks may let it go, I always lug around a pair of wind pants and a club shirt in case I pick up a ride ( has happened ) . A rotund fellow like me in a Texas summer ALWAYS dresses for max airflow. I've teched a time or two and a clean neat vehicle with a current safety sticker will breeze through. Try a local test-N-tune night to get your feet wet. Go to Redding and have a blast. Even a bad day at the drag strip beats a good day doing anything else. RICK
