If I have a .528 Cam and I go to 1.6 ratio rockers How much More lift do I get?


Also If I Have .110 Of head .100 of engne and use The steel shim head gasket do I need to cut a valve relief in the piston to make this combo Work, Or can I get away with out it??


BTW _ STOCK STROKE / Pistion / Etc / 225 Block

I know About the thicker head gasket / But I hant to keep the compression up.

Lift will be .563,
Someone else will have to post about clearence problems. I have always run 170 blocks, and on those motors, valve reliefs would be required. It is always a good idea to check the clearence, for your combo, to be safe.

Greg, I have had a set of 1.6's on my motor. I have a -.028" deck height with a Clifford .558"/300* cam and had plenty of room. (Standard head gasket)

Remember, .528 is gross lift. You will have less to account for valve lash.

Just to clarify. To calculate the diff between 1.5 (original) and 1.6 (new)ratio (or any) rockers:

NEW CAM LIFT = (RATED CAM LIFT)*(new ratio/original ratio)

You'll probably be OK, but best to check clearance (0.090" min) with playdough before final assembly. I leave out the head gasket, just put a couple of head bolts in and two pushrods/rockers, and crank it around.

When I used the 528 lift cam, in a similar setup to you I had no clearance issues with the pistons, but I did have trouble with the intake valves hitting the top of the block. I was using pistons that were .030 oversized, and with a .060 overbore there is enough room. I am now working with a .570 lift cam and we just notched the bore for intake valve clearance and it seems to be fine. I don't know if anyone else had this trouble or not, but I thought i'd let you know just in case.

Ryan, What size valves did you run there? I never had any problems like that

.030 Over 1.70/1.44 Valves. I cut Pockets intyo the pistons after The 1.6's were added.

Watch out for coil bind in the valve springs.....

Greg, The head I'm using was off of an old dirt track race car, and the valves are 1.750 intake and 1.50 exhaust. My dad bought the head already completed and had it in his first car over 20 years ago. His engine was a .060 overbore and had no trouble at all. My engine was only .030 over and the valves hit the outside edge of the bore. We notched the bore for clearance, and it seems to be fine. Once the car is running and tuned decent I would like to get a set of 1.6 ratio rockers, like yours. With the 570 lift cam I'd imagine it would make lift about .605, and that could be too much, but I dont know. How is your car running now with the new rockers??? did you get to run it at the track???
