I think I stripped the upper control arm while removing the upper ball joint. Do I

a) Try to screw in the new one to the existing arm.

b) Somehow locate a replacement.

c) quit

I dont want to put in the new bushings until I figure out what to do. Please help. It is one thing after another.

Never quit. If you did strip the ball joint socket threads your only safe option is to get a replacement.

You said you think you did - what indication do you have? Those threads are real shallow but can hold a decent amount of torque.

I've heard people tacking the balljoint to the arm. This is in the "jerry rigging" category and you may not be able to grind the welds down without damaging the arm for the replacement the next time around. Used arms shouldn't be hard to get, or you can make this an excuse to get tubular ones

As I was unscrewing the ball joint, I noticed thin curly slivers coming out of the hole and when I finally got the ball joint out I saw that the lining threads were hacked up. Any quick idea where to get a replacement. Tubular one are financially restricted.

i've seen them tackwelded in place but like pierre said, it makes changing the BJ a pita the next time around =)

You might be in luck as I just converted my discs over and may have the SBP upper control arms still sitting around. I can't promise it, but its possible. what side did you need?

Geoff, I'll take a look this weekend in the shed and see if I still have them. I may have tossed them with the LCA, but I have not have.

Those threads aren't ordinary threads don't expect them to look like what you'd see on a bolt/nut. I think a sliver came out of mine too when removing. Reassemble the old balljoint on the arm and see if you can get the torque spec (I want to say 150ft-lb IIRC). If you can then your set.

I said whoa the first time I took mine apart - I was surprised how such a shallow thread can hold that much torque.

it even has a new ball joint in it.

The Car you see in the Sig Has A welded in Drivers Side Ball Joint.

I have a complete spare set of uca' for when it wears out.

At the time It was installed I could not Replace the Bushings Etc. If has worked fine for 6 Years Like that.
