I am swpping the rear end in my duster. I currently have a 4" bolt pattern and will be going to a 4.5" bolt pattern.

My question is what do I need to buy new to swap the brakes over. Can I use the backing plate ETC and just buy a 4.5" bolt pattern drum?

Thanks
-Cory

There's a lot missing information in your question. Did the rear come with 4.5" bolt pattern and you want to swap the fronts to match? Did the rear come with a 4" pattern and you want to upgrade it? What is the year of your car and what kind of brakes does it currently have? 9" drum" 10" drum? Front disc? Details details, details...

Growing older is unavoidable but growing up is strictly optional.

I'm just changing the rearend. It was originally a 4" bolt pattern. The new rearend is a 4.5". It's a 10" drum currently. 1970 Duster

The rearend I got is complete axle to axle however the axles are bare. Can i use my 4" backing plate etc on the new 4.5" rearend?

Probably not.

What rear did you buy? A LBP 7-1/4"?

What spacing did they put on the axle ends? Moser usually sets them for B-E body brakes. You will have to use brakes for the body style the axles are set for.

For our cars there were two patterns, 4" and 4.5". You have to use the drums, backing plates and shoes as a unit. So, no, you cannot use your 4" backing plates. Good thing is that you can easily find 4.5' brake setups. As late as the 89 RWD cars still used what you need. In fact I have a C body 8 3/4 cut down to fit an A body with the 11" drum brake setup off a cop Diplomat.

In the back of my 65 Cuda.

I didn't mean to imply it was for sale or anything, merely that I had "been there".

I didnt look to see how old this post is, but I have a narrowed Moser rear under my 67 Barracuda. I bought new drums for a B body, and all was well.Infact, I bought all the brakes, and parts.....and the clips and used my 70 Road Runner as my reference. Wish you luck.
