ok i have a 80 doba with our favorite motor. question is is that i have a 904 tranny, and 7 1/4 rear. i would love to put in a A833 4 speed and 8 1/4 or 8 3/4 rear. question is would i have to do any major mods to put this tranny and rear in? or should i just opt for a 727 and build the rear? my front trans seal went on me last week, and i am debating on wheather or not to fix it, since im not too sure if it needs rebuilit, or if its just the seal. every once in a while when i put it in gear it either doesnt want to engage *i have to take it out of reverse/drive, put it back in park, and put it back in gear. then it works fine* or it sometimes seems to go in hard. but it drives and shifts fine. no hard shifts, no slipping, ect. and if i can get a 4 speed to throw in it, and a bigger rear with like 3.55s i would love to do that. any help guys?

Wow an old "J" Body...don't see too many of those these days (it's been a few years since I saw a Mirada either...sheesh)

The rear end is easy to get...you can easily bolt in an 8.25" rear (10 bolts on the rear round cover plate) from another 1980-1983 Cordoba/Mirada, 1977-1988 Diplomat/LeBaron or 1982-1988 Gran Fury (FYI, the Dippy and the Gran Fury have been used by various State Police agencies as Cop cars and may have a 3.21 sure grip rear...


For the problems of trying to get the pedals and things to make the 4 speed work, I'd just get another A-904, or have yours overhauled, get an 8.25" with the 3.21's, the driveline and tranny/speedo gear from the donor car, replace the u-joints and go from there...

If you were local to me, I have a 1981 Dippy 8.25 rear with open 2.94's I'd like to "move out" of my shed for a reasonable price...

thanks. i love my car. its different. sure its no charger or anythin, but at 20, i realy cant afford one right now lol plus i like it. it rides real good, and its different. somethin you dont see everyday. sure its not realy an "eye catcher" but the price and the fact that it was an all documented origanal owner car caught my eye. so you say you have a rear for sale? would you be willing to ship it? and if so how much you lookin to get for it?

I wouldn't mind seeing $60 for the thing as it doesn't fit any of my applications, sadly, shipping to Florida would make things prohibitve as the price for pulling one at a local pick-a-part for you would be much, much less...

I would like to have your car to mess with...I/'s outta projects! But in case you might wonder if the well known DI (who has been helpful in the extreme to me!) might, maybe, just possibly, ya know, offer you a slanted view on the pedals and tranny, well think again.

After having done a car and a truck putting in 833's after an auto and a manual...welll I wouldn't hesitate to tackle your deal. I learned, over about 5 months of torture, what will work and what won't and what to fabricate and not to make. And I am a right fair machinist. Don't jump into the tranny swap. You need to learn pedals, pedal hanging, what Chevy guys call "Z-bar", different pivots, and what I like to use, slave cylinders and slave masters. Easy to do once ya know how, like differential equations, but tough to get there.

thanks for your guys's imputs. i think i am goin to scout some junkyards for the rear tommarow, since i am off work. i know that it will be a big job of the tranny swap, but i would realy like a 4 speed. i think what i am goin to do is ask around and talk to some respected shops within my area, maybe all the way as far as orlando, and have them tackle the job. sure it will cost a pretty penny im sure, but it will deffinatley be unique. and we all know that with enough cash you can have anything :D but that is one thing i wasnt plannin on tackling. i mean i know my way around a car a bit, but i wouldnt want to get into all that.
