 Post subject: Holley or weber?
PostPosted: Tue Feb 12, 2002 2:39 pm
I have done some looking at Carbs. I found that the Holley 4brl 390CFM is about $10 cheaper than the Weber. From what I understand the Weber will mount to the Super Six manifold, but there are linkage issues. I would prefer to get an Offy/Cliford 4brl manifold, but Can I use an adapter to mount the Holley to the Super Six manifold? The engine is currently stock. I lke the idea of using the stock 2brl manifold so I retain the heat and do not have to use headers(saves $$$$$) I also may go with Dutra Duals someday. My other thought is to take an Aluminum 1 or 2 Brl manifold to a good welder and have them weld a 4 Brl mount to a stock manifold and then I can open it up to match the 4 brl hole. Any thoughts on this? What will work and what won't?

Scott been there done that. The supersix intake with the two barrel supersix carb works good with a stock engine. Yes they make an adapter to put a holley 4 barrel on the intake. But after doing that change the car showed very little difference in performace about 3 hundrends in the 1/8. To me the money spent on the adpter and holley carb wasd not worth the bang for the buck. Thanks Ron

Scott,
The Offy 4bbl Manifold has the carb heat provisions and will bolt up to a stock manifold.

I wouldn't think and adapter to mount a 4bbl onto a 1bbl or 2bbl manifold would buy you much.

Also, the factory 1bbl and 2bbl manifolds were not very good, they had alot of porosity problems. I would think having a 4bbl adapter welded to one of these, opening it to match the 4bbl and having the mounting surface machined flat after the welding would likely cost you more than the cost of a used Offy manifold (they are only $200 new from JC Whitney).

Sounds like maybe the best way to go is to get a used manifold and the Holley. I want to have room to grow. I plan to add a cam and a few other things in the future and I am not sure if the 2 Brl will limit me. Any thoughts on that?
Should I get a used manifold and Holley or buy a new 2 Brl and use my Super Six manifold?

Scott i agree with Dave i ran a offy 4 barrel on my engine up to a month a go. I bought a used Clifford and mad the change. On a lightly modified engine like mine i could tell no performace defference between the offy and the clifford. The clifford has more area for porting than the offy but both manifolds stock has the same inside openings. Here again my car did not pick up any time between the two manifolds. Ps i also run a 390 cfm holley Keith Dorton Nascar carb.
