James,

One concern of mine is that every book I have read states that after X#'s of heat cycles, all turbo headers will eventually crack.

Is a ceramic coating worth it? Will it make a turbo header last longer?

This is true. After enough cycles of heat a turbo header will crack. I am building braces and putting them on stainless outer shells of the tubing for support of the turbo and wastegate. The ceramic coating helps trap the heat in the header and out of your hood compartment, plus it looks great. I am getting a good deal from the company that is doing the coating and am passing it on. If someone is interested in one not coated that is fine also.

If you have never seen a 1941 dodge I have posted some pictures of it. Anyone in the Kentucky and Indiana area know this car. The boys from Chicago do not like it. Sometimes it is hard for X brand lovers to face the facts, there are some bad mopars out there. I was lucky when I bought this car 16 years ago. It was all factory then.

James, for what it is worth, I built my header of mild steel, and was later told that stainless is a better way to go. The biggest reason is the rust that flakes off the inside of mild steel and eventually damages the blades of the turbo. As I said, mine are mild steel, so I didn;t do it the best way apparently. I have intentions of doing a better job later, after I have solved some of the other problems I have been dealing with. By the way, I used to own a 39 Plymouth, which I suspect was very similar to the 41 Dodge. I wish I had it now. That flat head six could pull up a fairly steep hill at 15MPH without down shifting into 2nd. Talk about a flat torque curve. It was head and shoulders over the 37 Ford flat head v-8 I had at the same time.

I have a '41 Chrysler Limo. I only got to drive it up onto the trailer to take it to the restoration shop for a new trunk floor. It has flames painted on it (not by me, by a previous owner). It has styling and class all its own.

I would love to use stainless but it is so exspensive. It is approximately twice as much. I could build my own easy but that seems to exspensive for the average person. maybe I am wrong. If people wanted to spend more money they could be built of stainless. You guys give me some feedback.

Go to Verociousmotorsports.com and look at the stainless tubing. Their prices don;t seem that high to me. It is especially for headers. It seems to me that the material cost is the smallest part of the expense here. If I were doing it, or having you do it, I would spend the extra money and go stainless. It is supposed to be much better. By the way, how do you get a posting here to show up as a link that can simply be clicked on? I was under the impression that typing .com did that, but apprently not.

The headers will be made of 304 stainless tubing and the collectors also. The only thing that will be mild steel will be the header flanges and the collector flanges. I will also still have them ceramic coated. The tubing is 1 5/8 o.d. with the inside right at 1 1/2. I will be posting some pictures tonight of the flanges and the tubing. The wastegate flanges will be here on the 5th of Feb. You can see pics of these on my website I am devoting a page to just the headers. If anyone has any questions just ask me.

I bend all of my own tubing. I think that is the only way to get some of the exact bends I need. I know not everybody has a bender but I have built so many cages over the years I finally invested in one. If you have someone wanting you to install a cage they have bought that is "made" for their car charge them double.

Sam, to do that you begin the address with the "url" tag and end it with the "/url" tag. you can either type those in square brackets "[]" or use the URL button above the message composition window. Just click the button which inserts the tag then type your link address then click the button again to insert the closing tag.
