I just got off the phone with a guy at Steer and Gear and he was worried about my choice of a 20:1 box. He said he had a Duster that had one in it and he ended up taking it out. He also said that a lot of people order them and then want to return them.

My car is a street car, I drive it almost daily (when its in running condition). He was worried that parking and driving daily would be a hassle with the 20:1 box.

What kind of driving do you guys do with your 20:1 equipped cars? I want to make sure I make the right decision with the price of these things being so high.

I appreciate the help.

Horsepucky. I will only ever use 20:1 manual boxes in slant-6 A-bodies. The 24:1 (stock) box is way too slow, too many turns of the wheel lock-to-lock. The 16:1 (quick) box is a complete pain in the butt on the street, car is impossible to park and maneuver slowly even with lightweight aluminum 225. The 20:1 is absolutely perfect even with big tires -- they all should've come so equipped. Have no fear and go ahead and get it.

My 16:1 is a pain to park but I wouldn't give it up. 20:1 probably would have been a better choice but I'm not crying

Well, that's why I don't have one just yet. Not enough boxtops yet.
You can get a 20:1 GEARSET and do it yourself, if you want.

The only trouble I had with my 16:1 box was driving something else afterward. Everything else felt just plain sloppy.:wink:

I like the 20 to 1 that is in my daily driver, even with 225 / 55 x 15 on 7 inch wide rims, it steers easy.

You do have to be rolling to lessen the steering effort, it is hard to turn if the car is not moving.

I had to laugh at the young alignment shop tech. He would start the engine to turn the wheels side to side during the alignment, he kept telling me that my power steering pump was bad and needed replacing. :roll:
It is hard to believe that there are no new cars with manual steering.
(or maybe it's an auto technition training issue... sad)

I'm off topic here, but Doc those 225/55-15's must look pretty cool. Perfect height. I bet those tires cost some coin.

Some people have probably had trouble due to worn susp parts or bad alignments. If all is working properly, the 20:1 is fine. Low tire pressure can also bite you.

The 225/55-15 fit the Dacuda well, even with the car as low as it is.
Have to say that I got a great deal on these tires, they were used but have held-up well under my "aggressive" driving habits.

Lou hit on one key to success, I run them at max pressure and for these tires, that is 44 psi.
