.....I have a simple question. Is the coolant passage at the front of the head supposed to be blocked off by the head gasket.?
.....I have a factory service manual for the 65 Dodge Dart. It has a picture of the head. The picture has two holes at the rear of the head labled "coolant
passages" and a hole at the front of the head also labled "coulant passage". This might make a person think that none of those three holes should be blocked off.
.....My motor was rebuilt. It ran so hot the car was not usable. After checking every other possiblity I decided the water passages must be badly rusted up. I took the motor apart, but at that point I noticed that the head gasket blocks off the front coolant passage.
.....I would appreciate any info. Thank you.

Yes, the front and the middle "large" coolent holes should be blocked-off by the head gasket.
