I've tinted all my vehicals with 15% charcole front and back and it looks great. These vehicals are modern and the darker tint looks good on these types. However at night on a dimmly light street I feel a little more comfortable rolling down the window when checking for traffic when turnning. I can see but what if a car is coming without there lights on, I am not sure. These new vehicals also have power windows, my Barracuda does not. Rolling down the passenger window would be a pain.
I want to help protect the interior (99% UV blocking) and keep it a little cooler. The seats get to hot to sit on in shorts without a towel. The look of the car is a concern also. I am not sure it would look good or not with the darker tint. The car gets most of its driving after 5 o'clock but some weekends we're at the beach.
So the questions are:
Will the car look good with the darker 15% tint or sould I go with the lighter 30%?
Will the 15% stop much more heat than the 30%?
Should I have a "banner" put on and should it be the same %age or lighter than the rest?
I basicly have no taste and I would hate to tint it and find that a Barracuda just shouldn't have dark tint.

Most states have laws regarding the tint you can put on your front windows. The reasons are several, but mainly its a safety measure - so that you can see what's outside your windows and so that a cop can see inside your car when he/she approaches. It might look good with darker tinit but it's likely to catch the attention of the local gendarmes. By "banner" I assume you mean a visor strip across the top of the windshield. Those are commonly done and they do help to filter the sunlight but I don't like them myself. I'm fairly tall and I find myself craning my neck to look under the edge of the visor strip - very uncomfortable for me.

The 15% is illegal up front, but that is of no bearing on my decision. I don't think mixing %ages looks good.
The visior strip- I'll have to sit in the car a see how it might feel. What do you think about the way they look?

Don't know where you're located, but check your local laws carefully and from an authoritative source before you make a decision. Many states have regulations regarding the minimum acceptable transmissivity of window tint. Some states say you can have relatively dark tint (low transmissivity) on all but the front windows, or on all but the driver's window.

Laws aside, if your windows are so darkly tinted that you have to roll them down to check for traffic at night, you are seriously and foolishly endangering yourself and others on the road.

There are tint films available that do a very good job of blocking UV and heat without being dangerously dark. I've had good results with Llumar's stuff.

Llumar tint is what I use. I can drive with the 15% as long as others are not driving with the lights off at night. I am leaning away from the visor strip. Please disregard the law when posting your opinion on this thread. I know the law, it's consequences and I am willing to take my chances.

That's nice. Problem is, you're taking "your" chances and risking "your" consequences with my life if I happen to be on the same road as you, mister selfishly-disregards-safety-regulations-because-you-find-them-inconvenient.

IIRC, the law here in NC is 36% light transmittance which I think is acceptable. I wouldn't go much darker than that if it was my car for both looks and safety's sake. I can't stand the "tunnel" effect of dark tint even in broad daylight. For what it's worth, I once tested the transmittance of my thumb to illustrate to a customer why his @12% tint was too dark. My thumb measured 16% with the light meter. Now do you still want that dark tint?

The regulation exists for a reason. It's so selfish people who think the law shouldn't apply to them because following the rules would make their car look uncool, and people too slowminded to think through the consequences of their actions, don't hurt and kill other people.

So, which are you? Selfish or slowminded? Whichever it is, we already know you're perfect, since apparently you've never accidentally left your lights off.

I think where missing the point here. 15% tint is not all that dark. 5% is very dark and yes foolishly dark. All my vehicals now have 15% on them. Honestly, its now that dark here in the city at night. Even if you where driving without your head lights I'd still see you if you where to close to pull out in front of. Is it to dark by law, yes. Is it to dark to drive through the countryside at midnight, yes. Is it unsafe at night in the city, NO. What funny here is that I was thinking about using the 30% before this discusion started. I just wanted to have your opinion cosmeticly.
