Post subject: Lifter Adjust Specs ??
PostPosted: Sat Mar 09, 2002 8:44 am
I need to adjust the lifters on my 1979 225cid slant-6. The 1976-1980 Aspen Chilton Manual's table for valve specifications lists the "Stem to Guide" clearance in inches as:

Intake .0010-.0030
Exhaust .0020-.0040

Are these specs correct? I don't remember the feeler gauges being so thin last time I did this.

Appreciate someone verifying this for me.

Tnx,

David

That is correct for the clearance, for the valve stem to the valve guide. However you are looking for the valve lash, or rocker arm to valve tip clearance. This is .010 for the intake, and .020 for the exhaust, on a motor at normal operating temp, with solid lifters and adjustable valve train. With hyd. lifters there is no adjustment.
