Not to steal bren76cuda904's thunder but...

What is the max. compression ratio a /6 can handle? If o-ringing is the answer to high compression, what head gasket do I use with the wire?

Thanks

I used a solid copper gasket, obtained from the Cox Bros. Can't help with the NA compression ratio. I was running 12 psi or 150 nitrous.

With a N/A SL6, the composition type gasket is good to 11 to 1
A steel shim gasket on fresh surfaces with some sealer can get handle 12 to 1.
After that it is the solid copper with "o-ring" wire.
You should also use head studs and a little more torque.

Thanks guys, that's what I needed to know. I've been gathering info on the E85 issue and it looks like I can go to close to 16:1 before performance drops off but that isn't going to do me any good if the head gasket can't handle it!!

It's detonation, not cylinder pressure, that kills head gaskets in most cases. I would expect the limit to be higher on alchohol.

Matt is our R/D pro on the Slanted Attitude Dart and has a lot of knowledge because he is a Mad Sientist. I would go with his advice. Once at Clay City I seen Lou and Matt spin a ten pound rock up off the ground without any outside force.. Stayed up in the air about 10 seconds until Matt sneezed then it fell. And that is the truth. Because we are crepy and kookie and freaky and spooky we are the Slanted Family. :D Thanks

I will second that opinion (sort of). It is cylinder pressure, but it is the high spike in cylinder pressure, "caused" by detonation. Compression ratio has less "direct" effect on blowing gaskets, It is the result of high CR being more likely to detonate, and from what I understand, alchohol is less prone to detonate.
Tom Drake put in your two cents. Am I correct?

Alchohol has a much higher octane rating than any gasoline that is widely available. Just about impossible to make it detonate. Davey
