Good day, I have ordered new 3:91's for an 8.75 It is a 489 case. Can anyone recommend a supplier for remanufactured or new sure grips ( posi )to suit this rearend, as well as a pinion snubber for the same. I'm running a four speed & intending on an occasional dragstrip pass, is there a U joint & or driveshaft upgrade that anyone could recommend? or is the stock stuff durable enough? What about explosion proof bellhousings? I con't seem to find any info to suit the SL6.
All comments welcome.
Thanks Derek

Derek,

No off the shelf blowproof bells, but if you get a good clutch (McLeod) then you shouldn't need one. Best would be a 10" diaphragm if you can get them to make you one. Greg Ondayko has a nice 10" street-strip clutch from McLeod so search previous posts.

Stock driveshaft will be plenty strong, but you need to shorten 1.75-2" to fit the 8.75" axle if you have a 7.25" in there now.

Auburn makes suregrip units new for around $400. Try Randy's Ring & Pinion (google search) for various options. Manciniracing.com will also have SG units as well as pinion snubbers.

Lou

If you are buying a new SG unit, get a Power-Loc (clutch type) unit and not the Auburn (cone type) carrier.
A clutch type is rebuildable and are "torque sensative", meaning they apply more locking force as one wheel starts to over-run the other.

I have an aluminum adapter plate for bolting a 340 bellhousing onto a Slant. If you really need a scattershield, I would loan mine out as a pattern.

Even the 7260 u-joints will hold up amazingly well to a Slant motor.

Thanks DD for the rear end tips, sounds like the clutch type is the way to go. I would like to take you up on your offer to borrow your adapter plate for the small block bellhousing(Slantzilla). Did you mfg it yourself or have local shop make it? maybe you / they would like to make another one for a price, I would be happy to purchase one. Maybe there are others who would like to make this safety upgrade.
Thanks
Derek

The good people who made mine no longer make them, but I asked my local shop if they would like to copy it. They want to take a look at it, they think it should not be a big deal.

I am going down to my shop this Saturday, I'll make sure to bring it home.

Pop me an e-mail end of the week and remind me if you would.

I have the plate home. I will be in Vegas for MATS, but e-mail me if you still are interested.
