What is the fluid capacity ( sorry I forgot to mention it is a 1976 date coded a-833o.d. ) also is it safe to use synthetic, i'm hoping I can cuz I can get synthetic for free also does the speedo adapter from an auto work on this trans or do I need a special one

thanks

the fluid capacity is between 2 and 2 1/2 quarts. the slip yoke will work as long as the 833OD is a short tailshaft. the way to tell is the trans will be the same length as the 904. as far as fluid goes, run what you want to. i run a 50/50 mix of atf and gear oil. it seems to help cold driveability but also keeps the synchros working right. others on here will say gear oil only or atf only. synthetic should be ok. i would start with all gear oil and see how it works.

the speedo gear and housing will slip right in. just make sure it is aligned correctly and install a new o-ring so it doesn't leak.

Just to Clarify -

7 Pints of fluid -

And You need to count the number of splines on the output shaft of the tranny.

see this thread for more discussion.
http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21866

anyway, if there are 30 splines on your 833 and only 26 on your old 904 - then no your slip yoke will not work.
You will need to get a 30 spline yoke for an 833/727 for that trans.

Some 833's - esp late 70's alum units had the same splines as a 904 - 26 Splines. - Output shaft length is non an issue with this swap as I have do it before.
